This includes glass windows on lesson rooms to foster transparency between teachers and parents, full-time office staff so that students and teachers are never left unsupervised, requiring extensive background checks of all of our teachers and staff, security cameras in all rooms, and an open-door policy for parents, which means that they’re always invited to sit in on their child’s lessons. Technology is also a big part of lessons at the SJAA. Online & Virtual Music lessons allows students to have a modern and engaging lesson using music teaching apps, music software, Skype, Zoom and more. Feel free to “Bring Your Own Device” to your lesson in addition to your instrument! No other school in St. Joseph offers this technology.
One of the things that has really set up apart is our focus on providing lessons that are fresh, new, and engaging. There are so many great teaching apps out there now. We utilize every available tool so, our students have never run the risk of being bored by their lessons. It’s a challenge to engage children or adults, but by integrating technology such as teaching apps from the iTunes store, GarageBand, ProTools, you name it, we’re providing a cutting edge lesson experience in the St. Joseph area.

Every parent just wants to know how their child is doing and if they are really progressing. The best way for a parent to understand if their investment in lessons is really worth it is to have their child participate in a recital. Throughout the year, many of our students choose to perform in our regular, monthly studio recitals or as guests in special events and summertime festivals like the Blues & Jazz Festival, JoeStock, Trails West and Bluegrass Battles Hunger. We hold these locally so you don’t have to travel far for recital experiences both casual and more formal. Unlike other schools, there is no admission (Monster and Mansion concerts excluded) or any related fees for these recitals.

12. Make Up Classes
Missed a lesson? Out of town? No problem. We work hard to over-deliver on our promises to our students. We currently ask for 48 hours notice to reschedule for missed lessons. If a teacher has to miss a lesson, you will be offered a make-up opportunity or you will be credited that lesson fee for the next month.

We are the only music school in St. Joseph that offers music lessons seven days a week from early in the morning to late at night to accommodate your busy schedule.

14. Month to Month Lessons!
Our desire is to inspire our students with the love of music. We do this through teachers and music that our students love. Unlike other programs, we do not require semester minimums for lessons. You can begin anytime! To stop lessons, we just need 14 days written notice.
