The Write Notes – November 2017
Newsletter from the SJAA

Welcome to the “Write Notes”, the monthly newsletter from the St. Joseph Arts Academy!

There’s a nip in the air around here and it’s really feeling like fall now. Students are beginning to work on their holiday music now for the end of the year. With Halloween behind us it feels like it all goes very quickly. We’ll be finishing the year very strong with more recitals and the college students completing their semester course work including their Juries.

Thanksgiving is one of our very favorite holidays. We really hope that it will be a great time of togetherness for you and your family. We are grateful to have you as a part of our musical family. Thank you for the opportunity to work with the advancing musicians in your life.

News –

“Annie” The Musical! – Dec. 8-10, MO Theater

When the Robidoux Resident Theater (RRT) announced auditions for “Annie” we knew that there would be many of our young female musicians eager for parts in the cast. It’s a great show with a great message and music. It’s also an opportunity for young ladies to grab featured roles as characters in their own age group.

We are just so excited to have some of our girls in these roles. I know they are too! Congratulations to Alevia B (and her sister Addie (Pepper) on her role as Tessie and to Ashlyn F. on her role as Annie! We knew you could do it, Ladies! Super proud of your accomplishments and we can’t wait to see the show.

New Teachers – The SJAA is expanding and our student growth this summer has been one for the record books. If you know a GREAT PERSON who is also a wonderful musician willing to share their craft, we’d love to talk to them about teaching for us!

New Music

“Are You In Love”

We recently produced this song by composer, Simon Fink of Under the Big Oak Tree. It’s got lots of our favorite players on it including members of Kelly Clarkson, Organ Jazz Trio, KC All-Stars, Under The Big Oak Tree, Under the Influence and Soca Jukebox. The song was mixed and mastered by Matthew Russo.

“Uncommon Character” (uncommoncharacter.com) is a rebranding event for our fair city with supporters and key players from all industries and civil organizations.

We love the song and we know you will too!

Student of the Month

Breckin J. – We want to congratulate Breckin on her dedication and accomplishments. As a guitar student with our studio, she is working very hard on her music and is playing her electric guitar beautifully. Breckin was the one and only guitar student performing last months Halloween program, wearing her costume as the princess Aurora from “Maleficent”! She also played a mean “Minor Swing” by Django Reinhardt.

As “Student of the Month”, Breckin will receive an Starbucks gift card from the SJAA!

Congratulations on all your hard work, Breckin. We are super proud to have you as a guitar student at SJAA.

Big thanks to Breckin and her family for recommending their friends to the St. Joseph Arts Academy.

Daytime Lessons Available

Having trouble finding time for music lessons in the evening. We have lots of busy professionals, retirees and home school students who prefer to take lessons during the regular business day. “Lunch Hour” lesson times are available with openings almost everyday between 11am and 2pm.

Hour Lessons

Many of our busy, adult professionals and most dedicated younger students opt for a one hour session. More time and one-on-one coaching with your teacher is a wonderful opportunity to help you reach your musical goals more quickly. If you have the time or interest in an hour session, talk to your teacher and we will work with you to help you get it scheduled.

Guitar in your Home!

We’ve recently started our “in-home” music program for guitar. Many people prefer or need to take a lesson in their homes due to child care, business or even health restraints. We are here to serve the entire community of music learners. If you are interested in or need music lessons in your own home, drop us note. We’ll make arrangements to come to you!
